Dog Safe “Chocolate” Cake for National Chocolate Cake Day
🍫🐾 Dog Safe “Chocolate” Cake for National Chocolate Cake Day
Every year on January 27th, chocolate lovers celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day. But as dog parents, we know one very important thing:
🚫 Chocolate is NOT safe for dogs.
So instead of leaving your pup out of the celebration, we’re sharing our Dog Safe Chocolate Cake Recipe made with carob — a naturally sweet, caffeine-free alternative that looks like chocolate but is completely pup-friendly.
Because at AJ’s Dog Bakery, we believe celebrations are better when everyone is included.
Why Dogs Can’t Have Chocolate
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both of which are toxic to dogs. Even small amounts can cause vomiting, increased heart rate, tremors, or worse.
That’s why we use carob powder instead.
Carob:
-
Is naturally sweet
-
Contains no caffeine
-
Is safe for dogs
-
Gives that rich chocolate look and flavor vibe
So your pup can enjoy the fun — safely.
Serving Tips 🦴
-
Slice into small portions for controlled treats.
-
Add a dollop of plain Greek yogurt on top for “frosting.”
-
Crumble into enrichment bowls or lick mats.
-
Use heart-shaped molds for a Valentine’s twist.
Storage
-
Refrigerate up to 4–5 days
-
Freeze slices for up to 2 months
-
Thaw in fridge before serving
Celebrate the Safe Way
At AJ’s Dog Bakery, our mission started after losing our beloved Apple Jack to an unsafe treat. Since then, we’ve been committed to:

✔️ Transparent recipes
✔️ No rawhide
✔️ Safe, intentional celebrations
National Chocolate Cake Day doesn’t have to exclude your dog — it just needs a safe twist.
